Once described as the most beautiful station in Taiwan, it was destroyed during the September 21st earthquake. After reconstruction, the station is now a comfortable rest stop. Although it is the terminal station on the Jiji Line, it currently only possesses train functions for going back and forth. The simplicity is quite suitable for this tract of forest and mountain. As early as the Japanese colonial period, Checheng Station was already a hub for the logging industry and the earliest constructed railways were also used to transport wood. Have you ever been to Japan's Meiji Shrine? Did the huge torii there leave an impression on you? The wood used to make those torii actually originated from here. Now, the wood-processing plant has completely ceased operations, however many facilities have been left behind as traces of the past. Many scenic areas are located within the vicinity of Checheng Station. The Wood Exhibition Hall and Visitor's Center presents the geometric composition and beauty of wood to visitors, while the nearby Zhumu Pond has now become a pool of green water.  The light reflected off the water can be seen around the lake boardwalk and the atmosphere is quite tranquil. However take a little detour to the nearby old street, and then you can easily discover Checheng's famous wooden lunchboxes!
