Early spring is the best time to visit Mei Mountain Park. Every spring, the park is bursting with plum blossoms, moutan peonies, azaleas, and peach blossoms. There's no other feeling better than that of being surrounded by flowers and plants. Mei Mountain Park was growing plum blossom trees as early as the Japanese occupation era. Nowadays, there are over 1,000 plum blossom trees in the park, many of which are 5 or even 6 decades in age. There's also trees that are three hundred years old, and when all the plum blossoms bloom, the entire area is turned into a sea of white. A faint plum fragrance fills the air, and is quite refreshing. Follow the trail by the entrance, and as soon as you enter the park you can see the Caoling Monument, meant to commemorate the 74 soldiers who built Caoling Lake and died in the line of duty. Displayed on both sides of the trail are tanks, combat vehicles, and other weapons. It may be difficult to move on if you have children who enjoy airplanes and large cannons; you may have to take a picture before they're willing to go! The observation platform at the highest point is an excellent location for viewing Mei Mountain's streetscape. Many stores are located within the vicinity, selling plum-related snacks and preserved foods. It's a great oppotunity to enjoy a cup of sweet and cool plum juice!
