With the Anping Treehouse considered to be a national monument, you may think that the ancient people were truly phenomal to have thought of constructing a building in a tree. However, Anping Treehouse is actually more akin to Angkor Wat; it's an old warehouse for Tait & Co. established during the Qing Dynasty and is built on the ground. After some research, it's revealed that part of the ancient brick belonging to the walls of Anping Treehouse  were taken from the red bricks of Fort Zeelandia, and from the door's granite, cornerstones of the window frames, and wooden house structure, it's speculated to have been built, at the very earliest, during the end of the 19th century up until the Japanese occupation era. After it was abandoned, banyan branches and roots began to grow all over the roof and walls, layer by layer, giving the old building a mysterious atmosphere. It's cool and refreshing inside. All four walls are mottled, and the tree roots are like a labrynith! The old Tait & Co.  Merchant House has been converted into a waxworks museum. Vivid wax figures will bring you back to the olden days; it's like you're traveling through time. The Tainan City Government has even established a special wooden skywalk, so that you can admire the treehouse from another angle and feel the traces of time left behind.
