Can you believe that Chihkan Tower, located within Tainan City, was originally located by the the coast? The Dutch, in the year 1652, built this Dutch-styled building, named "Provintia". After going through the Ming and Qing Dynasties, and the Japanese occupation era, and despite it being a little different after some construction, the waves of the Taijian, choked up with silt, have mysteriously receded. But like its eternal namesake, it stands forever firm and tall. The historic Chihkan Tower boasts many interesting myths and legends, such as the legend of a stone horse turning into a monster after nightfall to harass people. The stone turtles underneath the nine stone tablets in the front are actually said to be one of the nine legendary sons of the Dragon King, who became stone decorations. On the walls and doors of Chihkan, are traditional auspicious Chinese meanings. For instance, the clay sculpture on the door, "White Rabbit Banana Leaf" symbolizes the Jade Hare and good luck.  There's an endless amount of stories and tales to be told here. Chihkan Tower also has its own mobile tour app, and as long as you have it downloaded, you can listen to explanations any time!
