After the Mudan Incident of 1874, in order to strengthen Taiwan's defenses the Qing Dynasty built the Qihou Fort. At the time military fort positions were extremely important, so Qihou Fort was considerable in size. Six Chinese-style cannons were erected here, with four more British made cannons purchased later. Qihou Fort has been preserved in a great condition.

The Kaohsiung Cijin Harbor also has a lighthouse, star trails, and other attractions that are fun aside from the Qihou Fort. Follow the trail to reach some of these attractions along the scenic harbor.
