Ciaotou village in Kaohsiung is home to a sugar refinery built during the Japanese era, the Ciaotou Sugar Refinery. This factory is the first factory to change from man-powered to machine-powered in Taiwan'a sugar industry history. After the factory was shut down, plans were made to turn it into the Taiwan Sugar Industry Museum. The factory is very well preserved and is a part of the museum; after many suggestions, the old sugar storage became an exhibition as well. You can find everything that's related to the Taiwan sugar industry, even the old dorms. which have been kept in great condition. Within the park, there are plenty of recreational areas. There's a big grass field, food vendors, shops, and more. They also provide bike rental services here, which is a great way to take in the beauty and the history of this place. Find a nice shade to rest under when you get tired, or go to one of the stores to try some of their frozen treats! It won't be a let down!
