Dapeng Bay, located between the boundary of Pingtung County's Donggang and Linbian Townships, is Taiwan's largest inland bay. The bay was originally used by the local people for breeding and raising oysters. It features an ecologically rich mangrove forest, brimming with all sorts of flora and fauna distinctive to mangroves. Today, Dapeng Bay not only offers ecological tours, but also "military history" and "water, land, and air" activities as its two selling points. Nearby, are barracks left behind during the Chinese Civil War from the Japanese occupation era. It's now turned into an exhibition area for historical military sites and hosts military tunnel explorations. Activities on water include kayaking in Dapeng Bay, bumper boats, sailing boats, as well as ecological lake tours. Land and air activities include Go-Kart racing, and light aircrafts. There's plenty of activities around to satisfy every age group. Dapeng Bay nowadays still boasts rich ecology. Up to 95 species of birds, plenty of fishes and fiddler crabs, and even large groups of migratory birds can be seen resting here during the right season. When visiting Dapeng Bay, don't just focus on the exciting activities. Slow down, and take the time to admire this rare ecology as well!
