The Memorial Hall of Founding of Yilan Administrationwas established in 1906 as the official residence of the Japanese Magistrate of Yilan. Later in 1997, it was restored as a exhibition hall, storing vital historical antiques from the Japanese Rule era. Under Japanese rule, it was built with juniper from Taipingshan in a mixture of western classic and traditional Japanese architectural style. After Taiwan's restoration, it was taken over by the nationalist government. In the Yilan NanmenDevelopment Program, it was preserved due to its important historic role and later refurbished to the memorial hall it is today. Inside the memorial hall you can see historic collections from three different periods, including the Qing Dynasty, the Japanese Occupation Era, and the period since Taiwan's restoration. Take off your shoes and take a walk inside the building, you can experience the elegance of Japanese buildings. With every glance you take, you'll see the history of Yilan. This is definitely a spot worth visiting.
