As you enter Taroko Park, if you continue straight towards the direction of the Visitor's Center, you will see Shakadang Trail. A parking lot is provided on the side. Shakadang Trail is a tunnel carved out of rocky cliffs. 4.5 kilometers in length, the Shakadang Creek runs alongside it. The scenery along the way will make you gasp out in wonder. It's full of Hualien's characteristic rocks featuring different colors and patterns. The creek waters are also cool and refreshing. Many benches are lcoated along the way as well for rest. After passing by the large landscape terrace, you'll arrive at the 5D Cabin. Going even further than that, and you'll come across the Datong Dali Tribe. You'll need to apply for a mountaineering permit before you can enter the tribe. If you didn't apply, you'll have to turn back! At the 5D Cabin, there's local crops and handicrafts for sale, and you can stop here for a rest. Located by the exhibition vendors is a small road, leading to the creek side where you can enjoy the refreshing waters. However, be careful of the turbulent water flow. It's definitely not to be visited after heavy rainfall. Also refrain from picking up any stones, and so that you may remain an conscientious tourist. If you have some time to spare when visiting Taroko Gorge, then Shakadang Trail worth visiting as well.
