168.5 kilometers along Suhua Highway, and located beside the sea is a small open space with stairs that you can take down. There's no indicators or signs, so it's not commonly found. The beauty here is hidden from most. It'll take around 5 minutes to head down, but along the steep path you can catch a glimpse of the vast ocean. This is the Hereng Shingle Beach, which possesses a paradise-like vibe. It's a naturally formed bay, with a gravel bank on the bottom. The gravel was once crushed marble and crushed stones from the Liangli Creek (Heren Creek) on the northern side, having undergone erosion and carried down and deposited by the sea water. It's quite comfortable walking on this beach barefoot. Since this isn't a well-known scenic spot, there's few people around. Admire the seascape here, listen to the sound of the crashing waves, and enjoy Hualien's atmosphere and sunshine. To the left, there's a railway for transporting cargo, while to the right there's a few naturally-formed sea erosion caves. It's pitch-black inside the caves, and they all have different heights and widths. Be extremely careful when walking inside. These mysterious are great for courageous travelers who want to explore, however don't be trapped inside when the sea level rises!
