There's a huge white warehouse at the Taitung Sugar Factory's facility. This is where various indigenous artists have come together to create the Aboriginal DIY Hall. Within the hall there are a ton of different items and types of art on display, and many hands-on classes are offered. Instead of just looking, you may actually take part in the Aboriginals' process of creating their indigenous craft and learn their meanings behind their work. Years ago Taitung Sugar Factory used the name "Eastern Sugar DIY Factory" to attract Aboriginal artists and groups. Now the Aboriginals of Taitung manage this place ,with new parts are being added gradually. Some facilities include woodshops, open-air stage, installation art, hand craft studio, architectural design studio, and more. There are a total of 26 different studio rooms for the Aboriginals to display their works, including glass beads, leather work, weaves, pottery, stone painting, handmade bags and so on. Hands-on experiences include feng chuan beads, glass bead, and sand blasting. One of the most popular activity is making your own glass beads. To make the traditional peacock beads that represents friendship or love, instructions will guide you in melting a glass rod and rolling them into little beads, as well as putting them on a peacock totem. It's incredibly exciting. If you want to know more about Taitung, in addition to eating popsicles at the sugar factory you can come to the Aboriginal Life DIY Hall to appreciate the blend between traditional Aboriginal culture and modern culture and to better understand the history and story behind this beautiful place.
