Located in Taipei City's Wanhua District, is the Wanhua Longshan Temple. It's one of the four major tourist attractions in Taipei, and is a center of faith, assembly, and activity for the local residents. During the Japanese occupation period, plague spread frequently due to the environment. Immigrants from three counties in Quanzhou, Fujian, erected a branch temple in Taiwan, based off of the Longshan Temple in Jinjiang and in honor of Guanyin. During the reign of the Jiaqing Emperor, a large earthquake struck Taiwan and Longshan Temple suffered grave damage, while during the years of Japanese occupation, parts of the temple were used as a school, army barracks, and temporary offices. Afterwards, Longshan Temple's head monk, Master Fu Zhi, realized how old-fashioned and damaged the temple had become. Its space was then used publicly. The temple was then recontstructed after fundraising, giving rise to the appearance of Longshan Temple today. Longshan Temple is designated as a national level two historic site,  and the main deity worshipped here is Guanyin. It is a unique and characteristic traditional Chinese-style building, consisting of a front hall, main hall, rear hall, and left and right guard dragons. The roof is characteristic as well, utilizing the Xieshan style. In addition, the temple is also an important shrine for Buddhism, Daoism, and Confucianism. Each of its three halls is dedicated to gods, there's the Sakyamuni Buddha, Guanyin Buddha, Manjushri, Eighteen Arhats, the Celestial Mother, Cheng Huang, Dragon God, Emperor Wenchang, Hua Tuo Xianshi, Yue Lao, and many more deities. The spirit of these figures here are all very emminent, and the burning incense flourishes. Every year during the New Years, this area is always crowded beyond belief. During the Lantern Festival, many colored lanterns can be seen here as well.
