Dongshan Rail Station is the first station in Taiwan to be developed strictly for tourism and lesiure purposes. Green Tunnel is its main important axis. The entire building's most dinstinctive architectural feature is its streamlined, melon-shaped canopy appearance. Completed in 2008, it's also eastern Taiwan's first high-rise railway station, with up to 100 million NTD spent on its construction. The melon-shaped canopy appearances carries with it a local Yilan flair, and its geometric lines display different lights and shadows as the sunlight varies. As a result, it attracts many people. Out of all the railway stations in Taiwan, there are only two that sell "railway sightseeing tickets", and Dongshan Rail Station is one of them, with the other being Houtong Station. The exterior of the station is shaped like a kite, which brings both vigor and liveliness to its surroundings. If you will not be riding a train and wish to enter the station just to sightsee, you'll need to spend 6 NTD on tickets. A ticket has two uses: with morning and afternoon uses, and its a worthy commemorative souvenir. The platform is wide and spacious, and many visitors can be seen taking pictures.
