Located in Pingxi District of New Taipei City, the Taiwan Coal Mine Museum was once formerly the "New Pingxi Coal Mine Company". It displays relics related to Taiwan's coal mining industry, historical materials, implements, and more, forming an outdoor educational area that's suitable for both parent and child alike. In addition to coal mine related cultural relics, historical materials, and mining tools exhibited inside, a complete mining site has been preserved, featuring mine pits, check points, firms, miner public baths, coal transportation railways, conveyor belts, coal washing area, storage cabinets, charcoal area, and much more. A simulation of a mine shaft using actual dimensions has also been established so that visitors may better understand the work situation of miners. From coal beds, to extraction and transportation: it's as if you've really stepped into an actual mine itself. There's also even a one-eyed train, that is Taiwan's first electrified coal train. It has been converted from a trolley carrying mined coal into a tourism and sightseeing train, and should definitely be experienced if you are visiting. The area is rich in ecology, with banyan trees and Taiwan rhododendrons. You can come across tung blossoms and mountain lilies during the spring and summer seasons, and the park's aquatic plant area is home to fireflies during the summer nights.
