Daxi is considered one of Taoyuan's earliest developed areas. Located next to the Dahan River, shipping was an important industry during the early days. Many sailboats would take advantage of the Dahan River and travel alongside the Danshui River towards mainland China for trading purposes. Because of the flourishing trade, traders ended up gathering in many numbers at Daxi Old Street. To this day, if one enters Daxi Old Street, they can still see written on top of old building businesses from the past. Now located on a peaceful street, Daxi Old Street still retains the architecture and appearance of that time era. The buildings are constructed in a baroque style mixed with a Minnan style, and in addition every building has their own respective business. Several of the stores here still continue to uphold tradition by selling traditional foods and handmade goods and handicrafts. Furthermore, when in Daxi, be sure not miss out on the famous and renowned Daxi dried tofu. Huang Da Mu (or Big Yellow Eye) Dried Tofu is an old, but well-known store in town. In addition to buying tofu, the store also prepares stewed foods on site, such as dried tofu, vegetarian chicken, etc…that are all worth sampling. The entirety of Daxi Old Street is under vehicle control due to the pedestrian zones, and during the holidays it can be difficult to find parking in the nearby parking lots.  At the end of the old street, one can see a scenic walkway in the distance. On the left hand side, there is a Ferry Coffee (渡船頭咖啡), where one can try a cup of coffee and experience the unique local taste of Daxi.
