Shimen Reservoir is located in the middle stretches of the Dahan River, in Longtan Township. It is the largest reservoir in the Far East. Because the exit of the river water is marked by two twin peaks, the name Shimen came into being. The nearby scenery is beautiful, with a recreational stronghold situated near the dam. At 133 meters tall; it is also Taiwan's largest embankment dam. There are 6 spillway gates in total, the largest of which can handle maximum flood spillage of 11,400 cubic meters per second. Whenever the flood waters are released, it attracts many tourists, who come and admire the magnificent landscape. Visitors with spare time are recommended to ride their bicycles along the lakeside road, heading up as they go. Along the way, one will pass by the beautiful mountains and bright scenery, with abundant green forests that are the significant habitats of low-altitude birds. Outside the visitor center there is a dam pier, where one can take a boat trip on the lake. Within Shimen Reservoir's periphery, there is a plum garden, dais, Xizhou Park, Maple Forest Park, Jiadong Forest Park, Luan Shulin Park, a multi-colored fountain, and many more. Visitors can use the entire day's excursion to enjoy the beauty of the reservoir. One also cannot miss out during mealtimes on Shimen's famous fresh fish cuisine. The fish are freshly caught and can be cooked in several different styles. From fish meat, fish head, and even fish scales, all can be made into food. It's truly a feast for the taste buds!
