After Xueshan Tunnel opened up, Yilan has become the back garden for the residents of Taipei. Yilan is well-known for its Jiaoxi Hot Springs, and as a result it is always packed with people during the weekends and holidays. Jiaoxi Hot Springs is a sodium bicarbonate spring, rich in chemical components such as sodium magnesium, calcium, potassium, and and carbonate ions. It's a rare flat ground hot spring, hardly encountered in Taiwan. The spring waters are transparent and odorless, and the temperature is around 58 degrees celsius, making it quite suitable for a bath. After a soak, the skin becomes smooth and soft, so it's very popular amongst those who enjoy hot spring baths. In addition to private bathing at the hot spring resort, there's a free hot spring to enjoy at the Tanweigou Park located between Deyang and Renai Roads. It features separate male and female public baths, foot baths, walking paths, and more facilities. It's suitable for men, women, and children alike. Of course after soaking in the springs for a while, you'll likely get hungry. There are some hot springs goods that you absolutely cannot miss out on here, for instance hot spring water spinach, hot spring tomatoes. and other vegetables grown using hot spring water. Do you think that they taste better compared to ordinary vegetables?
