Wulai is located in the Wulai District of New Taipei City, and means "hot springs" in the Atayal language. Wulai, along with Beitou and Yangmingshan are the three major hot springs in northern Taiwan. Wulai Hot Spring is an alkaline carbonated spring with a temperature of around 80 degrees Celsius, and it is the main source of hot springs in the southern Taipei Basin area. Located in the Wulai Scenic Area, is the Wulai Waterfall, 80 meters in height. It appears just like white satin in the sky. It's a hanging-valley type waterfall formed due to erosion, and during the Japanese occupation era, it was famed as the "Waterfall in the Clouds". Some other names it was known by include "White Silk Waterfall" (Baisi Pubu). It's the waterfall with the greatest drop in elevation in northern Taiwan. This area features a sightseeing bus that you can take, which was once used to transport timber in the past. Now, it has been repurposed into a vehicle that transports tourists up the mountain for sightseeing. The Wulai Cable Car that stretches across the Nanshi River, next to Wenquan Street, overlooks the entire waterfall landscape. Yun Hsien Resort can be reached upstream of the waterfall, while an aboriginal folk customs museum is located across the waterfall. The museum introduces Atayal customs and culture, and also displays cultural relics from the past. Sometimes aboriginal song and dance performances are held, in addition to fairs, traditional foods, DIY activities, and Atayal marriage ceremonies, so that you can truly enjoy aboriginal customs while being surrounded by Wulai's beautiful scenery. Next to the waterfall, there's a park named Warrior's Park, featuring a carved statue of an Atayal warrior and many planted cherry blossom trees in the surrounding vicinity. During the winter, you can come here to admire the blossoms. Taking a soak in the hot springs is also another very satisfying activity!
