Jiuzhize Hot Springs (Renze) is located at Yilan County's Datong Township, Taiping Village, within Taipingshan National Forest Recreation Area. During the Japanese occupation period, it was called " Asahizawa" or "Hatanosawa". It sits at an altitude of 520 meters above sea level, and every morning a large flock of doves can be seen circling in the skies above, hence its name. Later on due to the geothermal resources, it was also known as "Shaoshui", or "heated water". The springs are classified as a weak sodium bicarbonate spring, and the water temperature is around 140 degrees C. The quality of the water is clear and odorless, and possesses good properties for maintaining the skin. Due to the hot springs being located within the recreation area, you'll need to first pay the admission ticket for the recreation area as well as the individual costs associated with each spring. Jiuzhise Hot Springs contains a service station, hot spring boiled egg pool, outdoors bathing area, family bathing area, juniper wood bathing room, ecology exhibit area, outdoors hot spring spa, Jiuzhize Villa, Jiuze Bridge, Jiuzhize Nature Trail, maple forest alley, campgrounds, and more facilities. The service area sells tickets for the hot spring as well as hot spring eggs, corn, water bamboo, herbs, and other food materials. The hot spring boiled egg pool imitates a volcanic hot spring boiled egg trough. Here, you can cook the food that you've bought. An instructional sign is on top, teaching you the various methods and time needed to cook each food. Jiuze Bridge is a green bridge pier, and the boiled egg pool is located beneath it. When smoke from the pool rises up, the bridge seems to be floating in air, amongst the clouds and mist. It's quite a beautiful sight. Measuring 2 kilometers in length, Jiuzhize Nature Trail sits at an elevation of 525 meters above sea level. It'll take around 2 hours on foot to make a round trip. Due to the climate and the rainfall, it boasts an abundance of ecology. Along the way, you can come across broad-leaved forests, black bulbuls, light-vented bulbuls, Taiwan blue magpies, and more. Remember to not disturb any small animals you encounter.
