The Miniatures Museum of Taiwan is located on Jianguo North Road, Section 1, No.96. B1. When the museum owner Lin Wenren and his wife traveled to Amsterdam, they were attracted by pocket-sized art and thus started to collect them. In 1997, they established the first specialized museum dedicated to the collection of contemporary miniature art in Asia.
The museum's collections are numerous, and most of it belong to Lin Wenren's private collection. The works can mostly be divided into medieval European streetscapes, Baroque-period buildings, British Victorian buildings, and American colonial residences. Every piece of work is a wonderful and meticulous creation. However, the jewel of the entire collection is large-scale dollhouse, the "Rose Mansion". Made by Reginald Twigg, it has been awarded the honor of "Top Ten Outstanding Works of the Last 25 years" by the international miniature art maganize. The first piece collected is a country-style tea lounge and antique shop. It's an English-styled grass thatched house, and is the museum's smallest work, with a size ratio of 1:120. The museum's largest work is the "Thunder River", featuring the setting of Colorado's Thunder River during a rainstorm in 1912. The museum's most precious work is the "Buckingham Palace". It's interior and exterior are all built in accordance to the real Buckingham Palace. The most well-received and popular work, however is "Watching TV in a Vacation Villa", possessing the worl'd smallest television, entrance hall, golf clubs, and tennis rackets. "Ting Ting's Room" is the museum's cutest work, featuring lake and forest scenery, and three pocket-sized dolls underneath the bed.
The museum also features coffee and seating as well as gift shops. All sorts of miniature models are sold. If you aren't satisfied after you visit, you can buy one of the miniature models and take it home to assemble for yourself.
