Shuanglian Market is located in Taipei City's Datong District, on Minsheng West Road, No.198. Shuanglian was originally known as "Shuanglian Po". In the Taiwanese Minnan Hakka dialect, "po" refers to a pool or pond, as during its early years, Shuanglian featured two large connected ponds. This was how it got its name. In Minguo Year 67, Shuanglian Market was built, with a total of four stories: 3 ground levels and one underground level. As the socio-economic enviroment changed, the business opportunities in the market gradually dissapeared. In Minguo Year 95, the stalls were taken back, and the 1st ground floor and the underground level were made into market spaces. The underground floor mainly deals in poultry and animal meat products. The first floor, aside from selling traditional fruits, vegetables, flowers, and produce, also runs characteristic food stalls. A youth hostel is run on the second floor, offering accomodation. the third floor serves as a taxation office and archives. The fourth floor is a municipal library, offering plenty of books for reading. Some of the delicacies and specialties found here include minced pork rice, fresh handmade scallion rolls, lotus root tea, Shuanglian pan-fried large intestines, Dading rice noodle soup, Jianguo bouillon roll, Shuanglian Breakfast Store, Blue Coffee, Shuanglian oyster noodles, Shuanglian boiled dumplings, Achuan noodles, and Shuanglian roast sweet potatoes.
