Nanya Rocks are located in New Taipei City's Ruifang District, Nanya Road, within 80.8 kilometers north of the Binhai Highway. The scenic area is surrounded by both the mountains and sea. Except for the Yanliao and Fulong areas, it's a continuous stretch of beach and coastal scenery. Many sea cliffs, weathered rocks, and topography formed by coastal erosion can be found here, as well as several oddly shaped crags and rocks. Nanya was a settlement for the ancient Pingpu peoples' "Sandiaosi" society. It was also formerly known as "Nanzilin", with "nanzi" referring to the abundant  rainwater. Because of the influence of northeastern monsoons, rainfall was a common occurence here. The rock stratas of Nanya are standstones, and the coastal cliffs' layers are numerous, and form needle-shaped rock pillars. The sandstone is suspectible to rain erosion and weathering, which results in the oxidization of iron-rich minerals and the creation of iron oxide bands. Normally, the loose rocks of the formations are easily eroded and fall down. Over time,  rough and uneven surfaces on the rocks are formed, and the weathering effect bought by the monsoons even changes the rock color into different shades, creating a peculiar kind of textured rock.
