Laomei Green Reef is located within New Taipei City's Shimen District, Demao Li, Xiyuankeng, No.33-6. These green reefs are Taiwan's sole special "green trough" landscape, and are called either " tidal gully" or "marine erosion reef". Arranged neatly, these stone troughs came to be after the volcanic eruption of Datun:  volcanic reef rocks left behind were gradually eroded by the waves, leaving behind solid reefs. During the winter monsoons, the spray of the sea waves moistened the rocks, causing green seaweeds to begin to grow and flourish. When the monsoon season resided, the rocks were covered in green seaweed, that is the "Green Reef". The green reefs only appear during April and May, as the seaweed will soon dissapear due to summer sun exposure. They are also only able to be seen during the low tide. When visiting the local area, be sure to first check the weather bureau website for information on Shime's low tides. Be sure not to step onto the green reefs and their range. Aside from the slippery conditions, the reefs are already facing a crisis due to tourists stepping on them. Nearby attractions include Cape Fukuei Park, Cape Fukuei Lighthouse, Laomei Seacoast, and more.
