Hsinchu Taiwan Pavilion Expo Park is located within Hsinchu City's East District, Gongdao 5th Road, Section 3, No.6. The park was actually designed by the famed architect of the Taipei 101, C.Y. Lee, and sits at four stories tall. The park's main attraction is the Taiwan Pavilion, featured during the 2010 Shanghai World Expo. After the expo ended in Shanghai, Hsinchu City made a bid and accquired the rights to the exhibition pavilion. Combined with Hsinchu's local characteristics, it formed an unique 14,000 ping exhibition area. The "Water Lantern", combined with Taiwan's "Sky Lanterns", from the Lantern Festival celebrations, symbolize the blessings of prayer, the purification of the mind, and the signifigance of the Taiwanese people's love for earth and humanity. The exterior design is shaped like a giant sky lantern. The space within is divided into the World Expo Taiwan Pavilion, Culture Hall, a Container Villager, and other areas. It features large store, ticket office, a themed city hall, a lit platform, and theater. The theater requires tickets to enter, but all the other areas are free to visit. The theater is 12 meters in diameter and is a 720 degrees, fully-surrounded, three-dimensional, spherical space paired with 8 surrounding sound systems that play aboriginal chantings. From the north to south, Alishan, Taroko Gorge, and other well-known scenic spots can be viewed. When the film is being screened, you can feel the fragrance of the flowers, water droplets, and wind breeze. In the elevated sky of the Pingxi sky lanterns, a rich 5-sensory experience is drawn; you can even use the touchscreen panel to select a blessing.
