Green Grass (Qingcao) Lake is located on Hsinchu's Minghu Road, Lane 775. Its original name was "Niu'e Lake". Back then, Keya Creek was a prevalent force in erosion. This caused the meandering river to be cut off, forming a yoke lake. The area between Niu'e Lake and the river channel was often flooded and submerged in water, and as a result many aquatic plants started to grow. Therefore, Niu'e Lake was renamed to Green Grass Lake. It's a reservoir formed by the Keya Creek, and spans a length of approximately 9,441 meters. Green Grass Lake's climate is warm, and it possesses a rich ecological environment, however due to the build-up in silt, the reservoir's once-excellent quality is declining. Water hyacinth grows all over the entire surface of the lake, causing changes in the organisms. Plants consist of camphor, orchid, wild sage, golden rain tree, miscanthus, dwarf ixora, water hyacinth, flute reed, oriental cat-tail, Chinese banyan, Alstonia scholaris, flame tree, common paper mulberry, and much more. Some of the birds include species such as crested goshawk, black bulbul, heron (great egret, little egret, black-crowned night heron, cattle egret), osprey, black drongo, and yellow-bellied prinia. There's also many species of mammals and reptiles as well.
