Wuling National Forest Recreation Area is located at No.3, Wuling Road, in Taichung City's Heping District. It possesses an altitude of 1800 meters and an area of 76,850 hectares. Within the area, there are mountains, river valleys, waterfalls, streams, natural forests, and other landscapes, as well as scenery such as a suspension bridge stretching between the valleys. Nearby mountains and trails include Dabajianshan, Xueshan, Pintianshan, Taoshan, Chiyoushan, Kalayeshan. There's even beautiful white forests, steep cliffs, and precipices. Well known attractions amongst these are Taoshan Waterfall and Qijiawan Creek. Qijiawan Creek is a conservation area for the Taiwanese salmon, and it is also Taiwan's largest conservation area. The Taiwanese salmon are subject to strict conservation practices, and as a result, tourists may only watch them. 
Different sceneries can be found throughout the year at Wuling National Forest Recreation Area, not to mention a wide variety of birds. There's cherry blossoms, peach blossoms, plum blossoms, apple blossoms, alpine fruits and vegetables, maples, pine, cypress, Chinese fir, Chinese cork oak, and other plants and vegetation. Some of the birds that may be found are the Taiwanese rosefinch, Eurasian wren, and white-backed woodpecker, while animals include Reeves's Muntjac, Taiwanese black bear, swallowtail butterfly, white-tailed robin, white-throated dipper, mandarin duck, and Taiwanese salmon. The Taiwanese salmon is considered to be a national treasure, and is classified as a migrating fish. Close to extinction due to the changes in geology, they are unable to migrate. They are a living fossil left behind since the ice ages.

By Bus
From Taichung, take the Lishan-bound Fongyuan Bus, transfer to the Wuling branch line, and continue to the recreation area. There are only a few buses each day, so make sure to get schedule information in advance from Fongyuan Bus Co., tel.: (04) 2523-4175.
