Taichung Confucius Temple is located at Taichung's North District, on Shuangshi Road, Section 2, No.30. It was the original Confucius Temple, built during the Guanxu Era of the Qing Dynasty. However, during the early years of the Japanese occupation era, it was used as a military camp and was soon destroyed. The Taichung Airforce Elementary School (modern day Shengsan Elementary School), former site of the Taichung Shrine, was used as the new site for the temple and it was completed in 1976. Its exterior imitates the Qufu Confucius Temple, and is a Song Dynasty palace-style temple. It is one of the symbols of Confucianism. The building's construction combines both the ancient and modern, with memorial arches, screen wall, lattice doors, courtyard pond, burning pavilion, Dacheng Palace Hall, east and west rooms, Chongsheng Shrine, and others. Starting from 1970, every year during the 26th of September a sacrifical ceremony to Confucius is hosted. The ceremony is split into a offerings, costume, rituals, music, and dance. The music is selected from the Hongwu period, and features the three movements of  Anhe, Ninghe, and Xianhe. Costumes include blue government official robes. While Confucius is the main figure worshipped, other figures include the Four Sages: Yan Hui, Zeng Sheng, Kong Ji, and Mencius.
