National Taichung Theater is located at Huilai Road, No. 101, Section 2, in Taichung's Xitun District. Originally, the Taiwanese government had planned for a "National Taichung Music and Arts Center", but in 1992 that plan was changed to a "national concert hall". The city government then changed the name to "National Taichung Theater". In 2009, it was designed by Japanese architect Toyo Ito and does not feature any beams or columns, and was also praised by the media as "the world's nine major architectural miracles". Construction took five years, and the process of filmed by Discovery. Within the theater, there's a large theater, a Chinese theater, and small experimental theater, which can accomodate up to 3000 people.
