Although it's said to be a trail, when walking on Shiniu Trail you'll certainly come across steep cliffs and inclines. You'll  need to use both your hands and feet in order to continue. Along the trail there'll be several cliffs and precipices and traces of the old forest can be seen.  If it weren't for all the indicators placed along the way, then you could very well end up getting lost! When you reach Shiniu Mountain, at 671 meters above sea level, you can peer down and gain a full glimpse into Shimen Reservoir. It's a sight that's definitely worth your time! When the weather is sunny and cloudless, you can even overlook the area north of Hsinchu to Taoyuan, Taishan, and other areas. It takes 2 to 3 hours for a round trip, and it's not an easy climb at all. You'll even run rope-assisted sections. If you get tired, then its time to take a break! Aside from admiring Shiniu Mountain's orchard and rustic countryside scenery, this area is also home to a rich variety of plant ecology and resting birds and insects. You can hear the crisp cries of the birds coming from the forest, and catch the sight of elegantly fluttering butterflies, letting you forget all about the hustle and bustle of city life. After you reach the top, you'll be greeted with a 360-degree view of your surroundings with Shimen Reservoir, Naozui Mountain, and the winding mountain path in front of your very eyes. Gaze into the towns in the distance; all of your fatigue will have long disappeared.
