Taipei MRT 2015-04-22
The MRT is the fastest and most convenient form of transportation in the Greater Taipei area (Taipei City and New Taipei City). With many stations and many scheduled stops, it is a vital aspect of Taipei’s public transportation system.
 
The route is divided into several main lines: the Wenhu Line, Tamsui-Xinyi Line, Songshan-Xindian Line, Zhonghe-Xinlu Line, Bannan Line, as well as the Beitou-Xinbeitou branch line, and the Qizhang-Xiaobitan branch line.
 
No 1. Wenhu Line: Brown color, from Taipei Zoo Station to Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center.
 
No 2. Tamsui-Xinyi Line: Red color, from Tamsui Station to Xiangshan Station. The Xinbeitou branch line is located on this line.
 
No 3. Songshan-Xindian Line: Green color, from Songshan Station to Xindian Station. The Xiaobitan branch line is located on this line.
 
No 4. Zhonghe-Xinlu Line: Orange color, from Nanshijiao Station to Luzhou Station or Huilong Station. At Daqiaotou Station, the line will split: with line 4A heading to Luzhou, and line 4B heading to Huilong.
 
No 5. Bannan Line: Blue color, from Dingpu Station to Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center.

Short-term Ticket Use:
 
One-way Ticket:
Applicable Target: Suitable for travelers who will not take the bus or MRT more than 5 times in a single day.
Price: 20 to 60 NTD
Location Sold: Automatic ticket dispensers at every MRT station.
Duration: Only valid during sale date.
Use: When entering station, wait for the ticket to be registered at the gate. When exiting station, place it in the ticket gate.
 
Day Ticket:
Applicable Target: Suitable for travelers who will be taking the MRT multiple times during the day.
Price: 150 NTD. Ticket may be used by one passenger each time. During the period of validity, there is no limit on how many times a passenger may ride.
Location Sold: MRT station service window.
Duration: Only valid during sale date.
Use: When entering or exiting a station, ticket must be registered at the gate. 
 
Taipei MRT 24-Hour Ticket:
Applicable Target: Suitable for travelers who will be taking the MRT many times. 
Price: 200 NTD. Ticket may be used by one passenger each time. During the period of validity, there is no limit on how many times a passenger may ride.
Location Sold: MRT station service window.
Duration: Starting from the first time the ticket is accepted at a station, it may be used for 24 consecutive hours.
Use: When entering or exiting a station, ticket must be registered at the gate.
 
Easy Card Sightseeing Passport: Taipei Pass
Sightseeing Passport Short-Term Voucher
Applicable Target: Suitable for travelers who will be taking the bus and MRT many times within the valid period.
Price:
One Day: 180 NTD
Two Days: 310 NTD
Three Days: 440 NTD
Five Days: 770 NTD
 
The tickets mentioned above may only be used by one passenger. During the period of validity, there is no limit on how many times a passenger may ride the MRT or buses with the “Taipei Pass” label.

Duration: Starting from the first time the ticket is accepted at a MRT station or on a bus.
Use: When entering or exiting a station, ticket must be registered at the gate.
 
Maokong Gondola Half-Day Voucher:
Applicable Target: Suitable for travelers who will be taking the bus, MRT, and Maokong Gondola many times within the valid period.
Price: 250 NTD, a ticket may only be used by one passenger. During the period of validity, there is no limit on how many times a passenger may ride the MRT, buses with the “Taipei Pass” label, or the Maokong Gondola.
Location Sold: MRT station service window or the Easy Card service center at Taipei Main Station.
Duration: Starting from the first time the ticket is accepted at the MRT station, on a bus, or by a ticket machine.
Use: When entering or exiting a station, ticket must be registered at the gate.
 
One-Way Ticket for Passengers with Bicycle:
Applicable Target: Suitable for travelers who will be carrying a bicycle onto the MRT.
Price: 80 NTD
Location Sold: MRT station service window.
Duration: The day of purchase. Ticket is in effect from the first time the bicycle is bought into the station until it is bought out.
Use: Station staff will assist with opening the group ticket gate for entrance and exit; a staff member will collect the ticket upon exiting the station.
 
Easy Card:
If you will be traveling in Taipei and Taiwan for more than 15 days, it is advised that you purchase an Easy Card. When riding the Taipei MRT, you will get a 20 % discount. You can also ride the buses in Taipei City, New Taipei City, Keelung City, Taichung City, Yilan City, Tainan City, and Kaohsiung City, and many other modes of transports. You can use it as payment in convenience stores, and when buying tickets at designated scenic spots and other stores, the usage of an Easy Card can offer favorable discounts as well.

Introduction to Important Stations/Sites:
 
Taipei Main Station: The most important transportation hub in Taipei, the Taipei HSR (high-speed rail) and Taipei railway are both located here. The entire station is quite large, with a complex network of underground street malls such as the Zhongshan Metro Mall, Taipei Metro Mall, and Eslite. If you keep on following the underground street, you can eventually reach a plaza near the station and the Taipei Transit Center/Bus Depot.
 
Zhongxiao Xinsheng Station, Zhongxiao Fuxing Station, Zhongxiao Dunhua Station: Located in Taipei’s eastern section, a wide variety of department stores, food, clothing, and specialty stores are gathered here. The main and primary stores are all located above and can be accessed through sophisticated routes. If you want to find more distinctive shops, whether they be restaurants, clothing stores, or stores selling merchandise, they can be found in the alleys.
 
Ximen Station: Ximending is the hot central for youths throughout Taipei, and is home to a movie street, tattoo street, KTV, MTV, a wide variety of street snacks and unique restaurants, cultural shops, designer brand clothing, and the Eslite bookstore. Anything that youths like or find popular can be found here. In addition to all the latest fads, Ximending is also a place of culture and history. Ximen’s Red House is an example of a building whose culture and history has been preserved. It is simultaneously an exhibition hall and a gathering of cultural and artistic stores and is also located right next to Taipei’s famous gay street, full of pubs and bars.
To access Ximending’s main area, please exit from Exit 6 of Ximen Station.
To reach the Red House, please exit from Exit 1 and cross the road.
 
Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall Station: The station is located close to one of Taipei’s famous attractions: Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall.
To reach Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall, please exit from Exit 5 of Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall Station.
 
Taipei Arena Station: A large, multi-purpose gymnasium located in Taipei, the Taipei Arena hosts many large scale performances and events throughout the year.
To reach Taipei Arena, please exit from Exit 2 of Taipei Arena Station.
 
Tamsui Station: Tamsui Station is the last station on the Tamsui line, and is close to Taipei’s historic Tamsui Old Street and Fort San Domingo (Hong Mao Cheng). Across from the Tamsui riverbank, Bali is well-known for their historical relics and artifacts. Not only is there a riverside biking trail, but there is also the Fisherman’s Wharf, which is a scenic spot popular for its views of the sunset scenery and for couples.
Exiting from Exit 1 of Tamsui Station, you can easily walk to Tamsui Old Street.
To reach Bali, follow alongside the Tamsui River until you reach the ferry terminal. Take the ferry.
To head for the Fisherman's Wharf, wait at the bus stop by Exit Two of Tamsui Station and take the bus headed to Fisherman's Wharf.
Tamsui Station has two exits.
 
Xinbeitou Station: Xinbeitou Station is a branch line of the main Tamsui line. To reach Xinbeitou, you will need to get off at Beitou Station and transfer. Nearby, are many of Beitou’s main attractions, including the Ketagalan Culture Center and the Beitou Public Library, known for its architecture. Beitou hot springs and geothermal valley are both accessed from this station as well. The Xinbeitou branch line also differs from the other main lines in that the interior and exterior of their carriages are creatively decorated.
*Xinbeitou Station only has one exit. Nearby attractions can all be reached by walking.
 
Taipei Zoo Station: The Taipei City Muzha Zoo is located right outside the station. Those seeking to ride the Maokong Gondola should also disembark at this station.
To reach the zoo, please exit from Exit 1 of Taipei Zoo Station.
To reach the Maokong Gondola, please exit from Exit 2. If you are nervous about taking the gondola, there will also be a bus headed for the Maokong by Exit 2.
 
Taipower Building Station: The Shida commercial area is nearby.
It can be reached by exiting from Exit 3 of Taipower Building Station and walking alongside Shida Road.
 
Gongguan Station: It is located adjacent to the Gongguan commercial area and the National Taiwan University.
To reach the Gongguan commercial area, please exit from Exit 1 or Exit 4 of Gongguan Station. However, be aware that Exit 4 does not have any escalators.
To reach the main entrance of National Taiwan University, exit from Exit 3.
 
Taipei 101/World Trade Center Station: Taiwan’s famous international landmark, the Taipei 101 is located just outside.
Taipei 101/World Trade Center Station Exit 4 is connected to Taipei 101’s B1.
To reach the international conference center, exit from Exit 1.
The World Trade Center and Grand Hyatt Taipei can be reached from Exit 5.
 
Jiantan Station: The Shilin Night Market, a favorite of many foreign tourists, is located in between Jiantan Station and Shilin Station.
The night market is located opposite of Jiantan Station Exit 1.
