基隆慶安宮

Traveler Rating

Keelung's Qing'an Palace is located at Keelung's Ren'ai District, on No.1, Zhonger Road. It's also known as "Keelung Mazu Palace" or "Keelung Mazu Temple". It mainly worships Mazu, the Heavenly Mother. Along with Dianji Temple and Cheng Huang Temple, they are Keelung's three main temples. The temple was constructed during the Qing Dynasty, and during the reign of the Qianlong Emperor. It was shifted from its former location next to Keelung's Niuchou Port and Huzi Mountain, to its current site. The building's structure and layout is mainly of the Xieshan Zhongyan style, with the decorated archways being the Tingxuan style. A pavilion extends from the steps out front, with two huge columns at both ends, blue stone guardrails, and 8 elegant stone carvings. The door is presented by the Golden Youth (Jingtong), and two beautiful Chinese dragons stand on the left and right.
The Mazu statues worshipped are divided into the senior Meizhou mother with a powdered face, the golden-faced Quanzhou mother, and the red-faced Zhangzhou mother, symbolizing the reconciliation of the Zhangquan conflict. On both sides, is the patron saint of clairvoyance. The left hall is dedicated Laozi, Confucius, and Cangjie, while the right hall is dedicated to Tudi Gong. There is also a 60-ton, three-dimensional, Mazu statue, carved from Qingdou stone. Qingdou stone, otherwise known as Qingcao stone, is a type of precious stone, possessing fine and solid texture, and green color. It's the optimal material for carving.
Keelug's Qing'an Palace is also the birthplace of the "Zhongyuan Festival", an important festival in Keelung City which is held every July.
